Our Story

The Karen and Terry story starts many years ago. You see, Karen and Terry grew up not more than 4 miles from each other in Seattle. Karen grew up on Capital Hill, Terry grew up on Queen Ann Hill. Both experienced all the wonderful things the Pacific NW had to offer, but as they grew in experience, knowledge and wisdom, they never knew the other existed. In 1978, Terry moved to the State of Idaho to attend college, Karen went to college in Oregon, then on to airline trade school in California. Although on separate paths and unaware, destiny would eventually bring these 2 together.

Back on the home front, Karen's family continued to operate it's seafood processing plants in Alaska. This family business has existed since the 1920's, needless to say, it played a large role in Karen's life and little did she know at that time it would play an even bigger role in the future. Karen spent most summers working there from a young age, meanwhile Terry's father "Guy" , who had been in the seafood industry for a number of years went to work for Karen's families' company. In the summer of 1983 & 1984 Terry worked for this same company, little did he know that Karen had worked at that very same Alaskan cannery several years before.

After 18 years in the airline industry, Karen was recruited by her father to return to the family business. Her new job was in the home office in Seattle, as a manager for Alyeska Seafoods. After 14 years in the social service field, Terry made a decision to change careers and went into technology. In August 2000, the company that Terry represented approached Alyeska Seafoods to upgrade and install a new computer network. Karen and Terry began their "business" relationship then. As the months and the project progressed, they discovered each has a deep love for animals, and a mutual understanding of training working-bred dogs. As 2001 came along, a friendship grew along with a mutual respect for each other's abilities and work ethics. In April, Terry asked Karen if she would like to go see his hunting Lab. King perform field work, she agreed. Before this could happen, Terry's invitation had hooked Karen's interest; she made a bold move and invited Terry to a "religious" comedy being presented at a church she had been singing at. This was their 1st official date. Several get-togethers followed.

August 4th, we were engaged on the Washington coast at LaPush beach. With the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop and God as our witness we pledged our commitment to each other.

It has been an exciting time of mutual discoveries, extreme gratitude to God for bringing us together, and a whirlwind of planning and life adjustments made. The next chapter is still being written... stay tuned.
February 2, 2002 we formalize our committment. Click on the picture for more photo's.

Our engagement day at LaPush, doesn't Terry look happy and a bit relieved that I said yes? Me too since I did not want to see him resort to calling his alternate girlfriends out of the bushes to give the ring to!

Seriously though, I was grinning too! Most people who know me can't help but notice that this gorgeous, caring and Spiritual man has made me a very happy woman!

So many decisions to make, we've not set a wedding date yet, will be sometime in April we hope, we'll let everyone know soon!

Terry's fabulous hunting dog "King" hard at play in the ocean. The awesome herding dog "Quaid", trying his best to herd King since there were no sheep on the beach that day. King was NOT happy about this!
